Hot Tub Filter Replacement

Written by Spa Repair Technician on . Posted in News, Blog and Tips

Hot Filter Replacement is a pretty easy task.  Make sure to purchase the correct filter for the make and model of your spa. Take out the old filter by removing cap, the floating top of the filter, and the actual filter.

Before placing the new filter make sure to clean the housing area for debris.  To place the new filter make sure the small hose at the bottom end fits into the filter. Place the floating device on the top of the filter and twist to lock into place. Then add the cap.  Get the air out lines by turning the jets on and off a few times and you are good to go.  Now put a filter cleaning on your calendar for every 30 days to extend the life of your filter. Spatek offers a quality Hot Tub Filter and professional advice for replacement and installation.

Hot Tub Ozonator Repair

Written by Spa Repair Technician on . Posted in News, Blog and Tips

Troubleshooting a Hot Tub Ozonator is fairly simple.  Basically, if bubbles are not coming from the bottom of your tub or out of the ozone jets something is wrong with your ozonator.

The amount of ozone produced automatically depletes over time. Putting ozonator replacement on your calendar every 12-24 months is a good idea.  If you are more of a fix as you go person then just few replacement parts could be the issue. The ozone check valve, the ozone hose, and either the CD chip or the UV bulb, depending on your model.  Since the Hot Tub Ozonator prices are reasonably low most people just opt to replace the whole thing at once.

Spatek can give you a quote on the replacement and installation of new Hot Tub Ozonator

The Most Common Hot Tub Leaks

Written by Spa Repair Technician on . Posted in News, Blog and Tips

Some hot tub leaks are a bigger deal than others but what are you looking for?  There are a few common leaks to keep in mind when trying to find the source.

The big one the most people worry about first is a plumbing leak.  These are actually the least common however often do require a more professional approach.

More common is a pump leak. Look closely with a flashlight to determine if the leak is caused by a seal or a union.

A spa filter leak is another likely cause. These leaks can be caused by filter ring, gasket, or o'ring

Spa lighting leaks can be seen by shining a light around the fixture. A light can easily crack or the lock nut can loosen causing a leak.

If you need help diagnosing and/or fixing a leak call our expert team at Spatek

Diagnosing Spa Jet Issues

Written by Spa Repair Technician on . Posted in News, Blog and Tips

There are usually only a few things that can be the problem when a spa jet is completely not working or is just not performing as well as it should be.

1. Low air flow- Check that your water level is high enough first. If that seems to be fine check that the pump is set to high and the jet is not closed by a diverter valve.Check to make sure any air flow nobs are not set the closed position. It is possible there is a clog caused by hair and lint build up.  This can be checked by removing the spa jet internal. Also check the filter for build up.

2. Leaking Spa Jets- Check to make sure the lock nut mechanism is tightened. A leak could mean a gasket seal is broken or a dab of silcone is needed to reseal and retighten.

3. Broken Jet- A few of the smaller components that make up an entire jet bodyncould by themselves become damaged and render the jet inopperable.  Check that the threads on the insert jet are stripped.  The eyeball fitting on the inside of the jet can pop out. Also, the bezel ring can become cracked.

These simple diagnosis steps will help you determine if you are able to fix the issue yourself or if one of the experts from Spatek needs to pay you a visit.

Round vs Square Hot Tubs and Spas

Written by Hot Tub Repair Expert on . Posted in News, Blog and Tips

Written by Hot Tub Repair Expert on 29 August 2016. Posted in News, Blog and Tips

WaycasterWhich hot tub shape is best?

Have you considered a round spa?

There are definite benefits to owning a round hot tub.  Many people look at square tub primarily because they are cheapest to make and as a result you see more of them.  A round hot tub are superior when you consider the following aspects.
  • There is more more internal space in a round tub that does not have "stations" or recliners.
  • Round tubs have no-barrier seating - you can easily slide around the tub and "skootch" next to your loved one.
  • With a round hot tub you will get a true whirlpool experience
  • There are no sharp edges, bumps or seats in a round spa
  • The feng shui of the round design is simplicity and elegance
  • With a complete whirlpool, you get hydrotherapy in the front and the back
  • Maintenance is easier compared to a square tub when it is flush in corner
Spatek does sell square tubs, but with a round hot - we're the loop.

How to Claim Your Hot Tub As Medical Expense Deduction on Your Tax Return

Written by Hot Tub Repair Expert on . Posted in News, Blog and Tips

TAX DEDUCTION FOR YOUR HOT TUB?

April 15th is always a bad day - tax day.  Taxes are never a favorite topic unless you're an accountant. You want to pay your fair share, but why pay more than you have to, right? It's always wise to be aware of possible deductions that will reduce your overall tax bill.

IRS regulations may allow a deduction for your hot tub purchase if your doctor recommends hot water therapy for a medical condition.

Those who suffer from arthritis, RLS, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, back pain or other medical problems typically find that their aches and pains are alleviated by soaking in an hot tub. There are many medical conditions when a hot tub purchase may qualify for a medical deduction.

A doctor's prescription turns your hot tub into deductible medical equipment.  Just satisfy a few IRS conditions. Remember that a written recommendation is the first and most important step in the deduction process.

Look for IRS Publication 502, which covers medical expenses. According to IRS Publication 502, medical expenses are the costs of diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease, and the costs for treatments affecting any part or function of the body. These include the costs of equipment, supplies, and diagnostic devices needed for these purposes. However, medical care expenses must be primarily to alleviate or prevent a physical or mental defect or illness. They do not include expenses that are merely beneficial to general health.

Hot Tub Safety for Toddlers

Written by Hot Tub Repair Expert on . Posted in News, Blog and Tips

Toddler In TubYour hot tub is a great addition to the home giving you years of stress relief and enjoyment.

From the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), drowning is the main hazard associated with hot tubs.  The Consumer Product Safety Commission has recorded more than 800 deaths in spas since 1990.  About four in twenty were children under the age of five.

Hot tubs should be covered with a locked safety cover when not in use and children should be kept away unless there is constant adult supervision.

Infants and toddlers should never be in a hot tub.  Their thin skin makes them more susceptible to overheating.  And of course their control over their bodily functions is nil - say no more.

If a child cannot stand in the tub and have their head entirely above water, they should not be in the hot tub.  If they are tall enough, they should not be in the water for more than 5 minutes at a time (with the water temp. at 104).

Everyone, including children, should drink water while they're soaking. If any bather feels sick, dizzy and/or sleepy, they should leave the spa immediately.

Here are some important precautions:
  • Have a professional like Northcoast Spa & Hot Tub check your spa or hot tub and make certain it is in safe operating condition.  Use our Request for Service Form to contact us.Request for Service Form to contact us.
  • Keep water temperatures at or below 104°F.
  • Always use a locked safety cover when the hot tub is not in use.
  • Keep young children away from hot tubs and spas unless there is constant adult supervision.
  • Make certain the spa has the dual drains and drain covers conforming to and required by current safety standards.
  • Make certain knows the location of the cut-off switch for the pump so that it can be turned off quickly in the event of an emergency.
  • Be aware that consuming alcohol while using a hot tub or spa could lead to drowning.
In addition, the International Code Council (ICC) states that, like a pool, hot tubs and spas should be surrounded by a fence at least four feet high with a self-latching gate or door in the fence or an approved lockable safety cover.

Round vs Square Hot Tub

Written by Hot Tub Repair Expert on . Posted in News, Blog and Tips

Round Woman In TubShould you buy a square hot tub or a round hot tub?

Today most hot tub manufacturers build square hot tubs.  Square hot tubs are less expensive to build even though they tend to cost more.  Nordic's Round Hot tubs are more affordable and have a number advantages.

What are the benefits of a round spa?

  • With more people in the tub, you just scoot over and do not have to sit on a hump.
  • Round tubs take up less space on your deck but give you greater space inside (i.e. more people).
  • Round spas are more traditional
  • With a round tub, you get a true whirlpool
  • Often times round tubs are less expensive to operate
  • Round tubs tend to be deeper than square for full body immersion
  • From one spa forum poster, "my kids love whirlpool mode on the xl, it spins them around the tub!"
  • Plug 'n Play - the majority of the round tubs we sell require a regular 110v outlet and water.

SpaTek sells and services the popular Noridc "ROUND" hot tubs in the greater Los Angeles area.
